Our Mission
To provide quality services (electricity, internet, water, wastewater, EV charging, solar) at a reasonable price, bringing vital services to improve quality of life and economic health in the MidSouth Electric Co-op service area.
Our History
Electric cooperatives were born because investor-owned utilities would not run power lines in rural areas to service small populations. MidSouth Electric Cooperative was founded in 1940 by local farmers to bring industry to the area and provide electricity for families.
In 1942, the original 94 members received their first month of service. Today MidSouth provides fiber internet, water, wastewater, EV charging and solar in addition to electricity.
Cooperative Principles
Cooperatives are guided by 7 principles to reinforce commitment to members.
Voluntary & Open Membership
Voluntary organization open to all people able to reasonably use service and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political, or religious discrimination.
Democratic Member Control
Democratic organization governed by Board of Directors, elected by and accountable to membership.
Member’s Economic Participation
Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of the cooperative. At least part of that capital remains the common property of the co-op.
Autonomy & Independence
Autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by its members.
Education, Training, & Information
Education and training is provided for members, elected representatives, managers, and employees to contribute effectively to the development of their co-ops.
Cooperation Among Co-ops
Cooperatives serve their members effectively by working together through local, regional, national, and international structures.
Concern For Community
Cooperatives identify member needs and work for the sustainable development of the communities they serve.
