With winter weather moving into our area soon, take the time now to prepare for colder temperatures and the safety of your family.
While it may be tempting to crank up the heat, your next electricity bill will reflect how hard your heater worked to warm your entire home. Below are some tips we’ve gathered to help you stay as warm, efficient, and safe:
- Stay Safe: Space heaters, heating pads, and electric blankets are fire hazards when left unattended or used incorrectly *Never use extension cords with these items
- Clothing and Cover: Dress warmly and utilize extra blankets and head covering
- Set Thermostat to 68°F or Lower: Each extra degree of heat can increase your bill by 6 to 8%
- Ceiling Fans: Slow clockwise rotation drives warm air down
- Windows: Keep coverings closed when sun is not out, open coverings to warm home during times of sunshine
- Seal Drafts: Check around doors and windows for airflow, seal as needed
- Water Flow: Wrap exposed pipes, drain irrigation system, leave faucets dripping at night
- Pets & Plants: Bring pets and plants indoors during freezing temperatures
